The Mission of High Grounds Coffee Roasters is to build 100 orphanages through out the world. Each orphanage will include housing, a school, and a medical clinic. Our attention is currently focused on Eastern Europe, India, Africa, and South and Central America.
To accomplish this mission, High Grounds Coffee Roasters opened its doors in 2003 with a great welcome from the Highlandtown community. We are purveyors of fresh roasted, Fair Trade organic coffee which we import from 17 countries around the world. Our coffee is roasted on a state-of-the-art drum roaster made by Diedrich Manufacturing. This infra-red unit separates the gas from the beans to produce the cleanest roast possible. We are found on the shelves of all Whole Foods Markets and Wegmans Food stores in the area as well as the Markets of Highlandtown and dozens of cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants in Baltimore.
We are members of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the Roaster's Guild, Fair Trade America and Rainforest Alliance. With over 30 years experience roasting coffee, we labor to produce artisan quality coffee in small batches.
In our coffeehouse we employ a La Marzocco espresso machine. Built in Florence, Italy, this unit is the epitome of "old world European" quality. The Mazzer espresso grinder produces grounds at point of order, as opposed to grinders which maintain a quantity of pre-ground old coffee. You can surf on the crema! We proudly serve bagels, muffins, scones, and pastries from Uptown Bakers.
